Capable of holding 1,000 times its weight in water, naturally occurring hyaluronic acid is responsible for binding moisture in the skin.

Despite the different brand names, the nuances associated with all hyaluronic acid filler treatments are the same. There’s no need for allergy testing, so you can get injected in the same appointment as your consultation. You’ll be given a topical or local anesthetic to minimize any discomfort, and you can expect to see redness and bruising after treatment (which can last upward of a week). Avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, or high doses of vitamin E supplements prior to treatment, because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Results last from six months to one year, depending on the placement of the filler, your body’s metabolism, and whether Restylane®, Juvaderm® or Perlane® is used.
